Albert Chun, OD, FCOVD

Dr. Albert Chun received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1985 from the Southern California College of Optometry. In 1986, he completed his Residency training in Binocular Vision and Vision Therapy at the State University of New York State College of Optometry. Today, Dr. Chun serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor for the SUNY College of Optometry and oversees the training of 4th year Optometry interns in private practice clinical care with an emphasis in vision therapy. Dr. Chun is licensed in California, New York, and Hawaii and has provided full scope optometric vision care in Torrance since 1986.

Although Dr. Chun has a general practice, he focuses much of his energies toward Pediatric, Developmental, and Neuro-Rehabilitative Vision Care. Specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of vision based learning problems, Dr Chun has been helping hundreds of school-aged children labeled as "learning disabled" improve their school performance and their grades without the need for medication by treating the underlying vision problem that was hindering their performance.

In addition, Dr. Chun treats neurological vision disorders related to head trauma, strokes, and brain tumors to restore visual and motor function for improved quality of daily living skills. We have treated numerous cases of Autism, PDD NOS, Prader Willi Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other neuro-developmental cases to improve their function and ability to achieve optimal visual performance for school, work, and daily living. In 1988, Dr. Chun earned his Fellowship and Board Certification in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) following submission of case reports and passing a rigorous written and oral examination. COVD is the organization that serves as the certifying body of optometrists specializing in Vision Development.

In 1996, Dr. Chun received his certification for the use of Therapeutic Pharceutical Agents when the State Board of California began allowing optometrist to treat medical eye conditions with drugs.

Dr. Chun keeps abreast of the latest technologies in the eye-care field. Currently, he is trained and credentialed to provide counseling and pre- and post-operative care for laser vision patients. South Bay Optometry is a proud affiliate of the network of providers for NVision Laser Centers. Dr. Chun is also certified in the fitting and management of overnight orthokeratology lenses for the correction of myopia.

Dr. Chun is well respected and recognized among his peers having served on the local optometric association board for over 10 years. In 1991, Dr. Chun served as President of the South Bay Optometric Society.

Dr. Chun's dedication to his profession is only rivaled by his dedication of service to his community. Serving as an active member of the Torrance Lions Club since 1987, Dr. Chun has received numerous awards such as The Lion of the Year Award in 1990, the Robert M. Sinsky Award, and the City of Hope Life Sustainer award in 2000 for his years of service to the organization and his community. In 1997 and 2008 Dr. Chun served as President of the Torrance Lions Club.
